Why We Play

Hittin’ for Hooters & Duders didn’t start in a boardroom; it started on a dusty diamond with a group of friends who were tired of feeling helpless. When cancer touched our close-knit circle, taking swings on the weekend wasn’t enough anymore. We needed to swing back. What began as a small, scrappy tournament has exploded into an annual celebration of life, resilience, and community spirit. We target breast, testicular, and prostate cancer because we believe in fighting the battles that affect the “hooters and duders” we love most.

Community Driven

Built by friends, for friends.

Charlie Chastelaine

Founder & President

Charlie is the heart behind Hittin’ for Hooters & Duders (H4HD), bringing together her love of slo-pitch, community, and giving back. As a breast cancer survivor, Charlie founded H4HD with a passion for making a difference in the lives of those affected by breast and prostate cancer.

When she’s not organizing fundraisers, wrangling teams, or dreaming up the next H4HD event, you’ll likely find Charlie on the ball diamond, planning her next adventure to Mexico, or hanging with family and friends. Her goal is simple: raise money, make memories, and have a good time doing it!

Donna Maxwell

Treasurer & Umpire

Donna’s motivation for joining Hittin’ for Hooters & Duders comes from a deeply personal place. When her best friend Charlie was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was heartbreaking to watch someone she deeply cared about face such a difficult battle- not just for her, but for everyone who loved Charlie.

As Charlie went through treatment, Donna witnessed firsthand the challenges she faced and the incredible support services that helped her along the way.

After many conversations about the importance of giving back and making a difference for others who faced similar challenges, Hittin’ for Hooters & Duders was born.

Donna knew immediately she wanted to be a part of something that could provide hope, support, and resources to those affected by cancer. Being involved is Donna’s way of honouring Charlie’s strength and helping others access the care and support they need during one of the most challenging times of their lives.

Nedra Andersen

Secretary

Nedra started as a volunteer at the first H4HD in 2019. She watched friends and colleagues receive the diagnosis for both breast and prostate cancer — Charlie being one of them. Inspired by the invaluable programs and services provided by CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Nedra joined the H4HD board of directors to help bring people together for events and raise money for the Foundation.

From making new friends to raising money that directly benefits Manitobans, Nedra finds her role incredibly rewarding.

Michael Feng

Graphic Designer & Communications Support

Michael has been volunteering at Hittin’ For Hooters & Duders for many years. His primary role is to provide graphic design and communications support for H4HD’s fundraising initiatives. He proudly supports the H4HD mission of reducing the risk and impact of cancer for all people.
